Dozens of cattle have been slaughtered and hundreds have been afflicted as livestock owners rush to vaccinate their animals before the virus spreads further. The disease cannot be transmitted to humans, and specialists say afflicted animals’ meat may still be consumed if properly prepared, but its appearance has caused concern among buyers and sellers.
