Pak One Health Alliance

In July 2020, WHO Country Office – Pakistan and WHO EMRO engaged Pak One Health Alliance® to develop country’s profile for hospitals sector (Hospital Sector in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: Current Situations, Challenges, and Future Outlooks).

This exercise covered information regarding hospital sector and different components of hospital planning and management. It was in line with the development and implementation of the regional framework for action for hospital sector at national levels in the region.

Background: Hospitals are complex institutions that are key components of health care systems receiving between 50 and 80 percent of many countries’ health expenditure. Hospitals play critical role in moving towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Hospital Care, Planning and Management is a priority area of work for WHO EMRO. A proliferate amount of literature, collected over decades, is available on the models of hospitals within health systems. Whilst many assessments have been carried out on the health systems in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR), however, there is neither resource up to date that has comprehensively analyzed the hospital sector nor the different components related to the hospital care, planning and management in the region

The book is the first endeavor for the EMRO – WHO Region to provide invaluable information that can be used by the policy makers, managers, experts, academics and researchers. There was a plan to allocate One Chapter per country to present a comprehensive overview of the current national situation.
